Once Upon A Time....

I used to blog. Somewhat regularly (what is regular in the blog world?) Then life got crazy, as it sometimes does. Then blogging took a backseat. Here's the deal---I like looking back and seeing a journal of our day to day life, so I am going to attempt to get back into the blogging groove. We will see how that works out. Also it helps that I promised Ms. Liz that I would post a little something. (SHOUTOUT- yep I copied you!) Funny thing, she might be the only one to read this....cause guessing my few followers may have given up hope on seeing a new post. But hey...if you stop by tell me you did!
As you can see....we've grown up a bit since the last time I posted.

Happy Halloween

Halloween was lots of fun this year, costumes were done just in time and possibly a bit late as per usual, Lexie and I helped out at Brenten's Class Party and had fun watching the school's costume parade..we continued the "tradition" of going to Holly's to Trick or Treat. Nick learned new skills with curling Lexie's hair, and it totally poured rain the entire night of previous mentioned Trick or Treating...GOOD TIMES! Here's a few pictures of the lovely holiday....
Brenten came up with his own idea of a costume around July...Brilliant if I do say so! He made an awesome Mad Scientist...
Lexie changed her mind possibly 5000 time but settled on "colorful fairy girl" She was way excited to get her face painted and take pictures...this is her "flying" down the River Trail
Together, they were pretty cute kids....
Who were very excited to keep with "tradition" and Trick or Treat with their cousins...Lindsey is missing from the photo...Mini Mouse was a little camera shy I guess! All in all we laughed, we got rained on, we celebrated...Happy Halloween!

Piece of Cake...

So if you know me you know I {heart} making cakes! The last couple of months I have been baking up a storm. My friends daughter got married and I made her cake, then Lexie's cute friend Gracyn needed a Mermaid cake for her bday, and then a little boy in our neighborhood needed a Lightening McQueen cake for his bday! Whew...thats alot of flour, sugar, butter, and eggs flying around in our house! It has been so much fun though...in need of a cake??? Give me a call!
This cake was BIG and HEAVY! It was carrot cake with cream cheese filling, and frosted with Swiss Buttercream---the bride hates fondant..it was not super easy to get it smooth...but hopefully she liked it!
Happy Birthday cute Gracyn! Mel you did a fabulous job with the party! Lexie had a blast, hopefully Gray liked her cake! This cake was vanilla (died blue per request of the bday girl) with buttercream icing, topped with fondant. The kids weren't sure it they could eat the "sand" but I think crushed graham crackers are okay to eat!
I was excited to make a cake for Logan's 4th birthday, however I had a few cake catastrophies along the way and the cake in my mind didn't quite happen, this was the cake I delivered to his party, it was four layers of chocolate and vanilla cake, layered so it would look kinda like racing stripes (black/white/black/white) when cut into the filling was a light whipped cream and it was frosted with vanilla buttercream topped with fondant.
This was Lightening McQueen part two, after the first cake was delivered, I still wanted to finish this one (originally the top layer to the other cake) There are some rough spots-I'm still learning, but I hope Logan liked it, it was way fun to make! This cake was devils food, frosted and filled with buttercream and topped with fondant.
So there you have it...hopefully all the recipients were happy with the results!
**Thankyou Nick for making collages of all my recent baking adventures...you rock!

First Day of School

Wow, here we are almost a month into school and I am just getting to my First Day of School post...for me that's almost like on time! :) Brenten is officially OLD which makes his mom incredibly OLD and is in 3rd Grade!! I cannot believe it so cah-ra-zee!!! But we love him and he's off to a great start this year. He was a little skeptical about his teacher, someone told him she was "old and the meanest teacher in the whole school" yikes! But as we quickly found out at Back to School night, she is not infact old, unless my younger sister is "old" (they're the same age) and it is rumored that she is one of the best teachers in the school. He was more than a little relieved, and has had a great couple of weeks. As for Miss Lexie I had much mental anguish trying to decide her fate this year, I just didn't feel good about any of the preschools I was looking into. None seemed to be the right fit, believe me a summer spent stressing over preschools and finally I decided to teach her myself. I love having our own preschool time, and hopefully I'll be disciplined enough that she'll actually learn a thing or too! So that's us and since I'm sure you'll skim the babble but really you're here for the pictures...right???? Here they are!

Lady A....oh yeah and Tim McGraw!

So this weekend, Nick semi-surprised (he had to tell me early) with tickets to the Lady Antebellum/Tim McGraw concert at USANA! I was pretty excited because I do love "Lady A" It ended up being a fun girls night out with Mom, Ashlee and Holly...I had never been to USANA before, well actually I haven't been to a concert since Metallica in HS, so it was a new experience for me. I did however love it...I love huge crowds and millions of different people/personalities. I confess I am a people watcher and there were many people to watch! The most important of course being the singers of Lady A and that "other guy" (just kidding Ashlee) I do love Tim McGraw as well! In case you are curious, no jackets needed in the July night air at USANA, it was HOT! But so much fun to scream, shout, sing and dance along to the great music! Thanks everyone for a fun night!

Finally some updates...

So here I am again...on track for my one every couple of months update! We've been good...I'll let the pictures tell the stories...but I have been having a little trouble with Blogger getting my photos to load in the right order so we'll see how it goes...
Okay up first...Little Miss Lexie had a birthday in December and had been requesting a Little Mermaid Birthday since about March (she likes to plan ahead) I was a little unsure of how to have a Little Mermaid party in December, and as it turned out she ended up not having a "friend" party, and I found it somewhat difficult to find ANY Little Mermaid decor in December...but she got her mermaid cake, so she was pleased!
Lexie's actual birthday happened to fall on the same day we had our Family Christmas party, so the lucky lady ended up with another birthday cake! This one a little more holiday themed...oh how we love these birthdays so close to holidays...
Fast forward to February when my friend and I made a Wedding Cake...yes that's right we made a Wedding Cake! It was so much fun--alot of time, and definately alot of work---a few mishaps along the way-but the end result...pretty fantastic if I do say so myself!
check out the inspiration cake here and then check out out cake below...didn't we do good??
Next thing we knew, it was March and St. Paddy's day! Now you know that is a popular holiday around here...and we had alot of fun! Sneaky Leprechauns turned all the water in our house green..we celebrated with lots of green food, and Lexie got her ears pierced! What does ear piercing have to do with St. Patricks Day you may wonder? I don't have a good answer..sparkles and shine, and granting the wish of my little one I guess!
After St. Paddy's it was time for another birthday at our house...My not so little guy requested a Mario Cake...
Brenten had lots of fun celebrating this year...we brought treats to his class at school, he invited a friend to go see Diary of the Wimpy Kid in the theatre, and he was spoiled rotten with a new skateboard, new clothes, a new Wii game, new Basketball and the clothes to go with it and thanks to my sis the lovely Captain Underpants books as well as totally gross cd!
And now we are at April...my kids couldn't wait to pull some pranks on April Fools, we decided it would be fun to have "Dessert for Dinner" and "Dinner for Dessert" They loved their "cupcakes" and "sushi"
Our "foolish" cupcakes...Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes on top
Our "sushi" = Fruit roll ups, Rice Crispy treats, Gummy worms!
As you can see even though I haven't been posting, we are alive and well and hoping for sunshine! I do have some more pictures to put on my computer to catch up the rest of our adventures, but for now...this has been a pretty long post so I'm signing off!
Thanks for stopping by!!
